Stellenbosch Municipality invites qualifying applicants to apply for Learner Fire Fighter vacancies 2026.

Vacancy Location: Stellenbosch Municipality, Western Cape, South Africa
Stellenbosch Municipality is recruiting 12 Learner Fire Fighters within the Fire and Rescue Services division under Community and Protection Services.
The positions are offered for a 12-month period and are aimed at applicants who meet the required firefighting, fitness and residency requirements.
Successful applicants will assist with firefighting, emergency rescue services, basic medical care, fire prevention and related duties under appropriate supervision.

Salary: R174 899.90 – R227 049.79 per annum
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
Proof of completion of an FF1 course
Must be medically, physically and mentally fit
Must reside in the Stellenbosch Municipal Area
Must remain a resident in the Stellenbosch Municipal Area for the duration of employment
Must submit proof of address and affidavit
Shortlisted candidates will be required to provide proof of criminal record verification from the Local Criminal Record Centre.
Ability to communicate in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape Province: English, Afrikaans and Xhosa
No mental phobias related to confined spaces, heights, depths, water, blood, darkness, isolation or corpses

Successful applicants will perform tasks related to:
Responding to firefighting incidents
Operating firefighting equipment and apparatus
Maintaining firefighting equipment
Maintaining fire station facilities
Supporting related fire and rescue work under supervision
The duties are performed to protect the lives and property of residents in accordance with the Fire Brigade Services Act, Act 99 of 1987.
Applicants must be physically fit and able-bodied.
The physical requirements of the post mean that applicants must have no cardiac or respiratory anomalies.
All applicants will be subjected to physical fitness tests as part of the selection process.
Preference will be given to residents of Stellenbosch, subject to meeting the minimum requirements.
