Role Overview

The Department of Tourism is inviting registered tourist guides across South Africa to apply for an exciting online Mandarin language training programme for the 2026/27 financial year.

About the Online Mandarin Language Training

The programme is aimed at helping tourist guides improve their Mandarin language skills in order to better serve Chinese tourists and expand opportunities within the growing Chinese tourism market.

The Department will implement Mandarin language training at Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK1) level for registered tourist guides. The training is designed to strengthen communication skills and improve visitor experiences for Chinese-speaking tourists visiting South Africa.

The programme will run online over a period of 4 to 5 weeks from Monday to Friday.

South African citizens or permanent residents

Registered tourist guides with valid tourist guide registrations

Freelance, employed, or unemployed tourist guides

Tourist guides interested in accessing opportunities within the Chinese tourism market

Applicants with 1–2 years of experience working with local or international tourists

Tourist guides with effective communication skills
