Role Overview

An opportunity has presented itself to appoint a suitably qualified candidate into the position of Pre-Analytical Intern. This is a Fixed Term Contract position based at Richmond. The role will support the Pre-Analytical team by assisting with the sorting, registration, and distribution of pathology samples, ensuring specimens are processed accurately and prioritised according to standard operating procedures. The intern will also contribute to tracking sample progress and maintaining a clean, organised work environment.

Sample Reception and Support

Assist in sorting and distributing samples in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure correct and prioritized channelling to various laboratories or sites.

Support sample registration (“logging”) and respond to basic queries under supervision, following SOPs.

Receive samples and verify that sample information corresponds with data on the Laboratory Information System (LIS) according to SOPs.

Prepare and scan patient forms onto the laboratory scanning system (Occulus) accurately following SOPs.

Assist in dispatching specimens for processing and monitor courier progress to ensure timely delivery and processing of samples.

Customer Service and Stakeholder Interaction

Uphold professional customer care principles while interacting ethically and professionally with medical staff and other stakeholders.

Perform basic housekeeping duties, including preparation and cleaning of IT equipment in line with SOPs.

Grade 12 or relevant NQF level 4 qualification

0-1 Yrs Relevant Working Experience

Laboratory information systems

Organisational policy and procedures
