Bitou Local Municipality is inviting unemployed graduates to apply for the Municipal Financial Management Internship Programme (MFIP) 2026.
The internship opportunity is offered under the Budget and Treasury Office and is aimed at graduates who want to gain practical experience in municipal finance management.
The programme is a two-year contract position, with an option to extend for a further 12 months.

The Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme is a structured professional training and work experience programme.
The programme provides high-quality training and practical exposure in key areas of the Finance Directorate. It is guided by the Municipal Finance Management Act, Act 56 of 2003, and related municipal finance reforms.
The programme builds on the skills and competencies acquired during university or technikon studies and ends with a qualification in Municipal Finance Management in line with the Municipal Regulations on Minimum Competency Levels.
Applicants must be in possession of a three-year BCom Degree or National Diploma in one of the following fields:
Applicants must also meet the following requirements:
Must be between the ages of 21 and 35
Must be willing to sign an internship agreement
Must fully participate in educational and workplace assignments
Must observe municipal policies and procedures
Successful interns will gain exposure to the following areas:
Implementation of GRAP and budget reforms
Financial and performance reporting
Change, risk and project management
Expenditure and revenue management
Supply chain and procurement management
Communication and implementation of the Municipal Finance Management Act
Risk management and internal auditing
Successful interns will receive an all-inclusive salary package of:
