The Stellenbosch Municipality Fire Fighter Learnership Programme gives learners an opportunity to gain real workplace experience in an operational fire department.
Successful applicants will spend 12 months learning from experienced firefighters while participating in municipal emergency services under supervision.
The programme supports candidates who want to build long-term careers in Fire & Rescue Services.
Learners will gain practical exposure to:
Vehicle and apparatus handling.
Successful learners will assist with operational activities in accordance with the Fire Brigade Services Act, Act 99 of 1987.
Duties may include responding to fire emergencies.
Learners may participate in emergency rescue operations.
They may render basic medical care.
They may operate firefighting equipment.
They may maintain firefighting vehicles.
They may clean and maintain fire stations.
They may assist with fire prevention education.
They may support community awareness programmes.
They may participate in emergency training exercises.
They may also perform related operational duties under supervision.
Applicants must have Grade 12 / Matric.
Applicants must provide proof of completion of a Fire Fighter Level 1 course.
Applicants must be medically fit.
Applicants must be physically fit.

Shortlisted candidates will undergo physical fitness testing as part of the recruitment process.
A valid Code B driver’s licence will be an added advantage.
This may strengthen an application and may support future opportunities within Fire & Rescue Services.
Successful applicants will receive a salary ranging from R174 899.90 to R227 049.79 per annum.
The programme also provides valuable municipal workplace experience that may strengthen future employment opportunities.
