Role Overview

National Prosecuting Authority invites South African LLB graduates and final-year LLB students to apply for the Aspirant Prosecutor Training Programme 2027/2028.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is inviting applications for the Aspirant Prosecutor Training Programme 2027/2028.

The programme forms part of the National Prosecutions Service and will run for a period of 12 months.

Successful candidates will undergo structured training and continuous assessment to determine competence for possible appointment as Prosecutors.

Equivalent foreign qualification supported by proof of accreditation from SAQA

Final-year LLB students may also apply, provided that the LLB degree will be completed before the start date of the programme.

Demonstrate competency in acting independently, professionally, accountably and with credibility

Successful candidates will be appointed to undergo a 12-month training programme.

There will be continuous assessment to determine competence for appointment as a Prosecutor

Prosecutors must comply with the Code of Conduct

Prosecutors must observe Policy Directives issued by the National Director of Public Prosecutions

A written contract will be entered into between the NPA and the Aspirant Prosecutor

An entry examination will be written as part of the selection process

Only candidates who pass the entry examination, based on the set criteria, will proceed to the next stage of selection

Applicants must be available for the full 12-month training period.

No request to start later than the commencement date will be considered.

Aspirant Prosecutors who successfully complete the programme may not necessarily be placed permanently or on contract as District Court Prosecutors at the centre, cluster or division where they were trained.

Placement is at the discretion of the NPA and may be at any office in South Africa.

If an offer of permanent placement against a vacant post is made after training and is declined, it will be regarded as termination of contract employment.
