The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), through the Human Settlements Department, is inviting applications for the Student Internship Programme 2026.
This internship opportunity is open to qualifying students from Johannesburg communities who have never participated in an internship programme before.
The programme will run for a period not exceeding 18 months and is aimed at providing work-based training and on-the-job exposure to students who require practical experience as part of their academic qualification or experiential training.

Successful candidates will receive the following stipend:
Qualification completed with minimum 360 credits: R10 109,86 per month, basic salary with no benefits
Enrolled as a student: R3 500,00 per month, basic salary with no benefits
National Diploma in Town Planning, Civil Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or any built environment-related qualification at NQF Level 7
N6 qualification for candidates who need in-service training towards completion of their qualification
Enrollment confirmation letter from the institution

The successful candidate will provide project and administrative support and act as a Project Coordinator on Public Housing Programmes and projects implemented by the Public Housing Programme Directorate within the Department of Human Settlements.
The intern will be exposed to the following learning areas:
Coordinating and monitoring programmes and projects implemented by the Public Housing Programme Directorate
Procurement strategy, building contracts and tender documents compliance
Ensuring that administrative requirements and procedures associated with departmental programmes are complied with
Applicants should have the following competencies:
High level of confidentiality and organisational skills
Interpersonal, decision-making and problem-solving ability
Ability to work under pressure and independently
Presentation skills, both verbal and written
ICT literacy, including MS Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Language proficiency, including reading and writing in English
Basic knowledge of project management and construction management
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Problem-solving and coordination skills
Understanding of Batho Pele Principles, ethics and professionalism
