Role Overview

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) is offering a 24-month internship programme running from 01 July 2026 to 30 June 2028.

Internship Application Closing Date: 06 May 2026Internship Location: Sunnyside, Pretoria, South Africa

This programme is designed to equip graduates with practical workplace experience, skills, and knowledge to enhance their employability in the public sector and beyond.

Successful candidates will gain exposure to government systems while contributing to building a dynamic, inclusive, and globally competitive South African economy.

Stipend may vary depending on the highest qualification at the time of appointment

Applicants must hold a tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6 and above) in one of the following fields:

Public Management / Public Administration

Business Management / Business Administration

Human Resource Management / Development

Communication / Public Relations

Agricultural Economics / Forestry Science

Accounting / Financial Management / Cost and Management Accounting

Natural Sciences (Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering)

Mining Engineering / Metallurgy Commerce

Supply Chain Management / Procurement

Be an unemployed South African graduate

Have a qualification at NQF Level 6 or higher

Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills

Demonstrate professionalism and integrity

Be analytical with attention to detail

Have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Show willingness to learn and understand government systems and processes

Key Responsibilities

As an intern, your responsibilities will typically include assisting senior team members with daily tasks and project deliverables, conducting research and preparing reports as directed by your supervisor, and attending team meetings to contribute ideas. In this internship, you will be expected to learn and apply company processes, systems, and tools, complete assigned projects within specified deadlines, and maintain accurate records of your work and learning progress.
